Miniature Furniture

Artisans in their own right, the master tailors at Ede and Ravenscroft have always appreciated and supported the arts. In fact, our passion for arts and the finer crafts led to one of the finest collections of miniature furniture in the world.

Ede and Ravenscroft commissioned world famous miniaturist Denis E Hillman to create an extraordinary collection of Louis XV and XVI miniature furniture. Although perhaps an unusual commission, they wanted to bring to life the exceptional and unique quality of these 18th Century antiques which are some of the finest pieces of furniture ever made. Elegant and astonishingly beautiful, these works demonstrate the sublime heights that true craftsmanship can reach; heights to which Ede and Ravenscroft itself has always aspired.

Since 1979, Denis Hillman has specialised in creating France’s great furniture in miniature, showing how the originals would have looked in pristine condition. A Fellow of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans, he is considered by many to be a master of his art. As such, he was the obvious choice of craftsman to help us with this commission.

His exquisite miniatures of the finest royal French furniture form the Ede and Ravenscroft collection. But just as a formal suit needs the right event to show it off, so these miniatures required a fitting backdrop. That’s why Ede and Ravenscroft also commissioned the brilliant English miniaturists Kevin Mulvany and Susan Rogers to create three miniature rooms – Louis XV’s private office, Louis XVI’s library from Versailles and a Louis XV salon from Fontainebleau.

The collection can be viewed at the Naples Museum of Art, Florida USA where it is on public exhibition for the first time.
